Poem: Life to God

The text dings

the phone rings

the app pings

the song sings

the drive brings

everything fast and bright and now and wow

stimulate, distract, fragment, entertain

the drive ends at no signal in nature

The grass blades lay

the tree leaves sway

the mountains stay

the brown birds say

I start to pray

hoping, hands wringing, with a chance to reap

stand, stretch, look, search, inhale the fresh air deep

my thoughts were blending, and now hand-churning

God is always there

in the anywhere

listening with stare

to what I will share

if thrusted are cares

what other baggage to identify?

remember, recall, re-discover truths

breath slowing, mind opening, heart thawing

Like food he satisfies

grace and mercy aren’t shy

faithful as the sunrise

this is, I recognize,

to me personalized

getting closer, tunnel end brightening

rehearse, taste, savor, embrace, memorize

the mind receives before the heart believes

This God set a good design

this God, he gets to be mine

he has declared me just fine

I’m on an upward trend line

with Son and bride I will dine

all primordial connections restored

arrive, drop bags, pause, survey, embrace, rest

enjoy the heart’s home in God pre-heaven.
